What are Metageek’s plans for supporting the expanded 6GHz band on Chanalyzer and Wi-Spy DBx? Will it be a firmware upgrade on the Wi-Spy or a new dongle?
Hey @geek.dad!
While the firmware on the Wi-Spy DBx is upgradeable, unfortunately getting 6 GHz support would require significant hardware changes. It’s not possible for us to enable 5 GHz support with a firmware upgrade.
We are keeping a very, very close eye on the 6 GHz situation. I don’t have any announcements to make today, but stay tuned.
Thanks Joel!
Looking forward to seeing what’s coming down the road.

Joel,
It has been two years since last update. There are a lot more AP and Clients supporting 6E in the market now. I was wondering if MetaGeek has a plan to release 6E support.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Joel,
when can we expect a “Wi-Spy DBx Tri-band spectrum analyzer” ? We are having clients with 6Ghz networks and still cannot perform any spectrum analyzing on it. No one seems to have a answer. HELP!
Hi,
Mid 2024 and Wi-Fi 7 / 802.11be has been released, and 6GHz clients are ON the Market! …Anything??
