Recently, when I’ve been reading news on my phone, I’ve been seeing a bunch of ads positing wall wart style range extenders as a miracle cure for bad WiFi. As with many spammy ads that promise to extend things, skepticism is warranted. It is not often the case that these repeaters solve WiFi performance issues and in many cases, they can actually make things worse. Installing a WiFi mesh, on the other hand, is the path to WiFi enlightenment (but it will cost you).
Consumer Reports takes a look at WiFi range extenders here: https://www.consumerreports.org/wireless-networking/should-you-buy-a-wifi-range-extender/
