InSSIDer doesn't make sense

I am by no means tech savvy…so I’m kinda in over my head trying to figure out why I have good signal strength on my WiFi yet very poor performance. Step one was to run InSSIDer. Step two get confused. The visual of InSSIDer is pretty straight forward but when I look at the layout I see the 5GHz showing up in the 2.4GHz box. The stronger signal shows up in the 2.4GHz box but looks to be overlapped by the 2.4GHz signal. Here’s a pic of what I’m seeing:

Thanks

Hi @pbblackler,

From your screenshot, i guess “Verizon_5Ghz 1” (2.4G and 5G) “Verizon_TZQDN4” (2.4G) are bradcast by the same access point., because the signal is the same (-50db).

It’s why you can see the overlap on the 2.4G band.

To improve your user experience you can may be do the following :

  • “Verizon_5Ghz 1” disable the 2.4G
  • Disable the Phy Rate “b & g” if you don’t have legacy devices.

The 2.4g is heavily overloaded by many “WIFI, Bluetooth, DECT” devices, so it’s best to avoid using it for performance reasons.
